The Exodus of Young People from the Church

Picture image

The Exodus of Young People from the Church: A Deep Dive into Age Groups and Statistics

Introduction:

In recent years, there has been a growing concern among religious institutions about the decline in church attendance, particularly among the younger generation. The trend of young people leaving the church is alarming and has significant implications for the future of organized religion. This blog post will take a closer look at the age groups most affected by this shift, the percentage of people leaving, and the current statistics on church growth.

Age Groups Leaving the Church:

According to various studies, the age group most affected by the decline in church attendance is the younger generation, particularly those between the ages of 18 and 29. This age group, commonly referred to as "Millennials" and "Gen Z," is more likely to identify as religiously unaffiliated compared to older generations.

Percentages of Young People Leaving the Church:

A 2021 study conducted by the Pew Research Center found that 36% of Millennials (born between 1981 and 1996) and 42% of Gen Z (born between 1997 and 2012) identify as religiously unaffiliated. This is a significant increase compared to the 17% of Baby Boomers (born between 1946 and 1964) and 11% of the Silent Generation (born between 1928 and 1945) who claim no religious affiliation.

The same study also found that only 27% of Millennials and 21% of Gen Z attend religious services at least once a week, compared to 38% of Baby Boomers and 51% of the Silent Generation. This indicates that not only are younger generations more likely to be religiously unaffiliated, but they are also less likely to participate in religious activities.

Church Growth Statistics:

Despite the decline in church attendance among young people, the overall growth of the church remains a complex issue. In some regions, the number of religiously affiliated people has grown, while in others, it has declined. For example, in Africa and Asia, Christianity has experienced significant growth, with the number of Christians increasing from 381 million in 1970 to more than 1.3 billion in 2021.

However, in the United States and Europe, the decline in church attendance is more pronounced, especially among young people. As the younger generations continue to drift away from organized religion, the number of religiously affiliated individuals in these regions is expected to decrease.

Conclusion:

The exodus of young people from the church is a concerning trend that has serious implications for the future of organized religion. As more and more young people identify as religiously unaffiliated and less likely to participate in religious activities, it is essential for religious institutions to address the reasons behind this shift and find ways to engage and connect with the younger generation.

By understanding the age groups most affected and the percentages of people leaving the church, religious institutions can take targeted steps to create more inclusive and relevant faith communities that resonate with the needs and values of today's youth. Only by addressing the root causes of this exodus can the church hope to reverse this trend and foster a new generation of engaged and committed believers.

John MacArthur gets it WRONG!

I AM MrBATMAN

John MacArthur has been around a long time and he has some good teaching and preaching. But when it comes to the Hebrew roots of the faith he gets it completely wrong.

But I'm not judging him because I did the same thing for quite a long time. We have to read the Bible for what it truly says, not for what we wanted to say or for what our particular denomination tells us it says.

The Universe & Physics Fine-tuning

LoveYourNeighbour

Published on Apr 19, 2018

This video is about the unfathomably precise fine-tuning that is necessary for life to be possible. This fine-tuning is widely acknowledged by scientists and physicists from around the world.
Fred Hoyle (British astronomer): "A common sense interpretation of the facts suggests that a super-intellect has monkeyed with physics, as well as with chemistry and biology, and that there are no blind forces worth speaking about in nature. The numbers one calculates from the facts seem to me so overwhelming as to put this conclusion almost beyond question."
Arno Penzias (Nobel Prize in physics): "Astronomy leads us to a unique event, a universe which was created out of nothing, one with the very delicate balance needed to provide exactly the conditions required to permit life, and one which has an underlying, one might say, 'supernatural' plan."
Charles Townes (Nobel Prize winner, physicist): "Intelligent design, as one sees it from a scientific point of view, seems to be quite real. This is a very special universe - it's remarkable that it came out just this way. If the laws of physics weren't just the way they are, we couldn't be here at all. The sun couldn't be there, the laws of gravity and nuclear laws and magnetic theory, quantum mechanics, and so on, have to be just the way they are for us to be here."
Robert Jastrow (former theoretical physicist at NASA, chairman of NASA's Lunar Exploration Committee, and chief of NASA's Theoretical Division. Founding director of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies): "Astronomers now find they have painted themselves into a corner because they have proven, by their own methods, that the world began abruptly in an act of creation... That there are what I or anyone would call supernatural forces at work is now, I think, a scientifically proven fact."
Freeman Dyson (theoretical physicist and mathematician): "The more I exam the universe and study the details of its architecture, the more evidence I find that the universe in some sense knew we were coming."
George Ellis (one of the world's leading cosmology theorists & winner of the 2004 Templeton Prize): "Amazing fine tuning occurs in the laws that make this (complexity) possible. Realization of the complexity of what is accomplished makes it very difficult not to use the word 'miraculous' without taking a stand as to the ontological status of the word."
Arthur Eddington (astrophysicist & mathematician): "The idea of a universal mind or Logos would be, I think, a fairly plausible inference from the present state of scientific theory."
Paul Davies (multiple award-winning physicist): "There is for me powerful evidence that there is something going on behind it all... It seems as though somebody has fine-tuned nature's numbers to make the Universe... The impression of design is overwhelming."
Michio Kaku (theoretical physicist): "It's shocking to find how many of the familiar constants of the universe lie within a very narrow band that makes life possible. If a single one of these accidents were altered, stars would never form, the universe would fly apart, DNA would not exist, life as we know it would be impossible, Earth would flip over or freeze, and so on."
Dr. Dennis Scania (director of Cambridge University Observatories): "If you change a little bit the laws of nature, or you change a little bit the constants of nature - like the charge on the electron - then the way the universe develops is so changed that it is very likely intelligent life would not have been able to develop."

The Fossil Record: Does Noah's Flood or Evolution Better Explain It?

SUBSCRIBED 351

Does the fossil record provide evidence for Noah's Flood or millions of years of evolution?

Fossils of Sea Creatures High Above Sea Level:
On every continent we find fossils of sea creatures in rock layers that today are high above sea level. For example, most of the rock layers in the walls of the Grand Canyon contain marine fossils. This includes the Kaibab Limestone at the top of the strata sequence and exposed at the rim of the canyon, which today is 7,000–8,000 feet above sea level. [R.L. Hopkins and K.L. Thompson, “Kaibab Formation,” in S.S. Beus and M. Morales, eds., Grand Canyon Geology, 2nd edition (New York, NY: Oxford University Press, 2003), p. 196–211.]

This limestone was therefore deposited beneath lime sediment-charged ocean waters, which swept over northern Arizona (and beyond). Other rock layers of the Grand Canyon also contain large numbers of marine fossils. The best example is the Redwall Limestone, which commonly contains fossil brachiopods (a type of clam), corals, bryozoans (lace corals), crinoids (sea-lilies), bivalves (other types of clams), gastropods (marine snails), trilobites, cephalopods, and even fish teeth.[S.S. Beus, “Redwall Limestone and Surprise Canyon Formation,” in S.S. Beus and M. Morales, eds., Grand Canyon Geology, 2nd edition (New York, NY: Oxford University Press, New York, 2003), p. 115–135.]

These marine fossils are found haphazardly preserved in this limestone bed. The crinoids, for example, are found with their columnals (disks), which in life are stacked on top of one another to make up their “stems,” totally separated from one another in what can best be described as a “hash.” Thus, these marine creatures were catastrophically destroyed and buried by the deposition of this lime sediment layer.
